Elko ascends Summit day two

Elko’s second day of the 2010 Employment Summit began today.

Yesterday, participants were divided into six groups that rotated to six different brainstorming sessions. Those topics were:

-Leadership
-Strategic goals, objectives and policies
-Financing and contracting
-Training and technical assistance
-Employer engagement
-Services and innovation

Out of those six topics, the groups created and voted on what solutions are missing and need to be created. The ideas that received the most votes were then turned into the discussion topics for today. (Read about how votes from all the groups are aggregated in Behind the scenes of the Employment Summit)

Group members pick one topic and discuss it all day. Today’s topics are:

-Increase competency by developing and instituting training programs for consumers, providers and community partners (including employers)
-Involve all stakeholders in the improvement of interagency collaboration and communication resulting in increased employment options for individuals with disabilities
-Expand and enhance flexible, affordable transportation options for individuals with disabilities 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to facilitate access to employment
-Identify and utilize all funding available for best employment services for individuals with disabilities
-Review, revise and implement performance standards and policies of state agencies with a goal of improving employment in outcomes
-Develop strategies for better transition including introduction career development experiences at an earlier age
-Review, define, revise implement and enforce a reimbursement structures for service providers in order to increase employment outcomes of persons with disabilities
-Develop a self leadership coalition for employees with disabilities which will support employed individuals, and act as a consultant to state leaders
